Mobile app development has come leaps and bounds in recent years. And part of its progress has been the adoption of new trends. One such trend is geolocation — predicted to reach $40 billion by 2024 for the location-based service market, according to MarketsandMarkets report.

Geolocation applications are proving to be useful to many companies and industries. They improve customer experience and the way businesses interact with their user base. The rising number on-demand service apps shows that geolocation is becoming a necessity for survival in the mobile app market.

With younger generations being increasingly more mobile, it’s time explore the benefits user engagement and monetary benefits that GPS-based apps have to offer.

There are several steps in creating a location-based app and we’re going to explore them below:

Step 1: Research the market and your competition to identify the market gap, so you know what your target audience needs, whether the app will benefit the users, and highlight your unique selling point.

Step 2: Partner with a digital agency that will bring your location-based app idea to life. When you work with people who specialize in GPS-enabled application will make the development process much simpler as they know the ins and outs of the process.

Step 3: Pick a set of features that will appeal to your target audience. Based on the functionality of the app, you will have to decide on the geolocation technologies, and the tech stack to be used. Most GPS-based apps have a similar set of features (Most geolocation apps have similar core elements, including map view, user location detection, route mapping, etc.) but it’s better to start small.

Step 4: Validate your idea by conceptualizing the design. Create a detailed wireframe for your app using some of the online Wireframing tools and share the interactive prototype with investors for initial feedback.

Step 5: Launch your app with an MVP that you develop using agile methodologies. Even if you’re pressed for time, try to perform some quality testing to smooth out any issues.

After testing, release the app onto both app stores, Google Play Store, and the iOS App Store.
